David

I’m David, a graphic designer from Lincolnshire who landed in Suffolk about 15 years ago after coming back from Hong Kong. Like Mike, I have been travelling and camping all my life and I have over 60 motorcycles and 35 years of

motorcycle riding under my belt.

I have travelled to over 40 countries and territories around Europe, the Americas and the Far East and have always had the dream of circumnavigating the World on a motorcycle. The dream has always been thwarted by real life but now, the time has come for an all-or-nothing decision to do it.

I started travelling abroad in 1989 on board a brand new Harley-Davidson 883 Sportster: loaded up with just a change of clothes, a mate on the back and another accompanying us on a Kawasaki GPZ550. We headed off to Duisburg in Germany where my sister was working for a year. I didn’t even take a toolkit and, by the end of the journey, the chain was so slack, I could hardly change gear!

Since then I have made several trips over to Europe beginning with a 3,600 mile round trip to Faro, Portugal in 1997 on a Honda GL500. In 2006, my mum

celebrated her 60th birthday in Italy so, rather than flying down with the rest of the family, I rode down through France and Switzerland, then across Italy to San Marino and back up through Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Holland and Belgium.

Trips to European MotoGP rounds are always a great addition to a holiday and I have visited Le Mans, Barcelona, Brno and Assen to get my racing fix.

In recent years, I have been looking towards further horizons and longer trips. My most ambitious to date was in 2016 with a 5,000 mile round trip to Nordkapp

: the most northerly point on the continental European land mass. I travelled through ten countries (7 of which were new to me) during the two week trip which took me up the west coast of the Baltic Sea and back down the east coast and through the Baltic states.

I turned 50 at the end of 2017 so we need to get The Big One done soon. Luckily, I met Mike who has a similar outlook on life and the same desire to do this ride.
